Dream Big

Have you ever had a dream that seemed impossible? Recently God has opened up doors that continue to amaze me. It started with a thought, then a sketch, prayer, more prayer, bringing the idea to my parents, more prayer, and finally letting it go and putting it in God’s hands. The Pierre home had  a space that was previously used for storage, but after a second look, we realized it could be converted into a living space and generate income. When we started looking into the possibility of renovating the space, we did not have the money to make it happen. I discussed the idea with  my husband and family.  One of my brothers did an amazing job drawing up a detailed plan that included our family’s vision. Our family brought it before God and asked Him to guide and provide. My mother and I wrote Bible verses on the walls and dedicated the space to God before any work was done and before finances were available.

Before we knew it, God blessed my husband with a new job and increased income. We started saving and putting away. A good friend of my father provided us with people who worked hard to set up plumbing and electricity. God continued to provide miracles along the way. About half way through, I began to get discouraged. Funds were running low and I wasn’t sure if the project would be completed. I woke up on a Saturday morning and happened to come across the book of Nehemiah. It brought tears to my eyes. The chapters described the challenges Nehemiah had to go through to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem.  I loved how chapter 3 named the carpenters, craftsmen, and all individuals who rebuilt the wall. Chapter 4 talked about the opposition and doubters who tried to stop it. I was mesmerized! If God gave this much attention to detail, I knew he heard us and that our dream was important to him too. It gave our family the strength and resolve needed to keep going.  We were blessed to connect with an amazing contractor who was instrumental in completing the space and making it beautiful.

This experience has truly grown my faith and appreciation of the supportive community God had blessed us with. Friends and family have been praying for this project and supporting in any way they could. It has been amazing to have others see the dream. We also had our doubters, but they motivated us too! I got to see my mother’s creativity shine! So many of the ideas that were incorporated into the space came from her. It has truly been humbling. Thank you to each individual who prayed with us and contributed through advice, sending great help, and providing support!

Restored

You may have a dream that seems impossible and unattainable. People may have doubts and tell you to be practical (I am so guilty of this). However, God has continued to remind me that He is a very impractical God. He does his best work when we have reached our end. I’m learning to trust God more and more and walk fully in the purpose He has in my life. God’s got you too. It may be hard to see, but if you can’t see it, begin to dream and place your dream in God’s hands!

This experience reminds me of how God longs to restore the broken and painful spaces in our lives. It is my prayer that we are open to renovation and renewal in each of our lives.

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track.” Proverbs 3:5,6 - Message Bible
